2012 Reedy Truck Race of Champions Final Report

RC Insider’s Travis Brock
Main day at the 2012 Reedy Truck Race started off a little different from most big races as the drivers that would grace the Triple A-Mains were not up first. Instead, Jimmy and the Hot Rod Hobbies crew decided run a program that would allow one bump up from each class giving racers that one last shot they may need to get their truck in the big show.
As the lower mains came to a close you could tell that today’s competition was going to be close as the top Drivers in the B-mains were all within a few seconds of each other.
 STOCK TRUCK
Stock Truck:  1) Shawn Blackwell  2) Robert Hoffman  3)  Matthew Pages
While Shawn Blackwell dominated Rnds #1 and #2 in his signature style the real battle came down to the second step on the podium. In Round #1 it was Robert Hoffman taking second with up and comer Matthew Pages taking third. In Round two Robert and Matt would swap places going in to A-3 tied for points with Shawn on the sidelines watching them do battle.
With a rough start Robert fell back to 2nd and Matt was in 4th by the end of the first lap. As Robert made it back to the lead by the second lap Matt was stuck playing in traffic fighting his way back to the front trying to catch Robert. While Robert was able to hold on to the lead and take the win Matt took a close second finishing just under 1 second behind.
STOCK SHORT COURSE
Stock Short Course:  1)  Vinny Manzo  2)  Matthew Pages  3)  Mason Templeton
With Matt taking second in the STOCK TRUCK class he was determined to get on the top box at least once this weekend. He started off strong with a big win in A-1 of Stock Short Course with a dominating lead over 9 seconds. Coming in 4th place in A-1 would be Vinny Manzo in his lain black truck. With a showing in the first round that wasn’t the best Vinny was able to strap it up and take his truck to the top spot in A-2 with Pages in second and Mason Templeton taking third. As there was no defined winner coming into A-3 it was a head to head battle that would put Vinny on the top step when it was all done.
SPORTSMAN 4WD SHORT COURSE
4wd Spt. Short Course:  1)  Brad Boutell  2)  Radcliff Brill  3)  Ted Takashima
What can be said about this class except it is full of a ton of Horse Power and drivers who are still classified as Sportsman…. and that always makes for a good show.
PRO 4 SHORT COURSE
Pro 4 Short Course:  1)  Carson Wernimont  2)  Billy Fischer  3)  Mike Truhe
Moving on to what I can easily say was the best 4WD SC Race I have ever seen, A-1 had everybody in attendance wrapped around the track talking about how close things were and how clean the race was. I heard on more than one occasion people referencing this race to watching a round of 4WD buggy. As the guys sorted this one out TLR’s Billy Fischer would take the big W with teammate Mike Truhe in tow.
In the third spot was the days eventual winner Carson Wernimont with TLR’s David Jenson in the 4th spot. As the day went on things got a bit more on track with normal SC racing as some doors got banged, some trucks got moved…. and some just got punted on the last lap in A-3. Finishing on the top spot of the podium was Team Durango’s Carson Wernimont followed by TLR’s Billy Fischer and Mike Truhe.
PRO 2 SHORT COURSE
Pro 2 Short Course:  1)  Kody Numedahl  2)  Billy Fischer  3)  Carson Wernimont
I dont know if all the racers are trying to make Kody Numedahl’s move to CA or if hes just going that fast but since Kody has moved to CA he has been untouchable. The Team Associated designer swept A1 and A2 in this years Open 2 WD SC class putting his SC-10 on the sidelines as he had already wrapped up the win.
Taking a close 2nd this weekend was TLR’s Mike Truhe in the new TLR 22SCT that is looking better and better every weekend. Rounding out the podium was Carson Wernimont with his new Durango 2WD SC.
OPEN 2WD TRUCK
Open 2wd Truck:  1)  Drew Moller  2)  Mike Truhe  3)  Kody Numedahl
I don’t think anyone saw it but TQ of the weekend in Open Truck was Drew Moller in his RT-5. With a bobble in A-1 Mike Truhe was able to get by take the win. In A-2 Moller would drive true and hold off Mike Truhe leaving a battle for A-3. As A-3 started Mike was collected by a racer and pushed back to mid pack. While Truhe was faster on the track Moller was able to drive a perfect race and would take the overall win leaving Truhe in second and Kody Numedahl in 3rd.
On a side note Kody wanted us to know how much he enjoyed driving truck again as he hadn’t had a chance to run one in quite some time. Maybe now that he is done acting as Team Manager this weekend BT can let him run some more at upcoming events?
EXPERT STOCK TRUCK
Exp. Stock Truck:  1)  Wayne Wyrick  2)  Kevin Motter  3)  Matt Gilbert
1 year ago if you told me Wayne Wyrick would TQ over Kevin Motter, Nolan Anderson, and Matt Gilbert there is no way I would have believed you. With a change to new cars Wayne has really made an improvment and is now one of the nations top Stock Drivers. In A-1 Kevin Motter would edge out Wayne taking the win with Wyrick in a close second.
Round 2 put Wayne back on top while Motter slipped to third with Jeremy Chaussee taking Second. A3 is what it all came down to and as the points were added up Wayne would take the win with Motter in 2nd and Matt Gilbert and his MIP ride in third.
Note: Special Props to Matt Gilbert for rocking the Jones Cancer Foundation Shirt! Keith was a good guy!
EXPERT STOCK SHORT COURSE
Exp. Stock Course:  1)  Kevin Motter  2)  Addam Gragg  3)  Brent Calvert
Lets talk about Kevin Motter for a moment. This young driver is this years ROAR Nation Stock Buggy champ and Team Associated’s newest wheel. He is also the winner of this years Expert Stock SC class at this years Reedy Truck Race. Way to go Kevin!
2WD ROOKIE TRUCK
2wd Rookie Truck:  1)  Bryan Wyrick  2)  Dylan Chaussee  3)  Ryan Didomizio
Just like his Older Brother Wayne, young Bryan Wyrick takes TQ in his class this weekend but one upped his brother with a win in A-1 and A-2. Taking Second would be Dylan Chaussee of CCR with a second and a win in A-3
2WD ROOKIE SHORT COURSE
2wd Rookie Short Course:  1)  Mason Templeman  2)  John Barnett  3)  Matt Heiman
Mason Templeman was the man to beat in the Rookie SC Class taking TQ over some of the much older racers and putting his flamed SC truck up front for A-1 and A-2. We look forward to seeing this young driver moving up through the ranks in the upcoming years.
